Q:How long does it take to learn to swim?
A:This is different for each pupil and how they react and respond to instructions. Emphasis is placed on an individual gaining confidence with placing their face in the water.

Q:How many in a class?
A:All groups have a maximum of 10 pupils.

Q:Are teachers in the water?
A:No, With all our Beginners & Shallow Improver Classes we have a Qualified Level 1 Assistant in the water to aid the pupils with a fully Qualified Level 2 Teacher on pool side. On occasions instructors will give demonstrations in the water.

Q:Where are the lessons held?
A:At a number of locations in Sevenoaks, Dartford and Rochester. All are indoor heated pools.

Q:How long is a swimming lesson?
A:Lessons are based on 30 minute time slots.

Q:Do you take children with severe learning difficulties?
A:yes, Autistic pupils, Downs Syndrome pupils and pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties receive one to one tuition. Once they have learnt to swim unaided they will be moved into the mainstream classes.

Q:Is Life Saving part of the course?
A:yes, classes include a week of Lifesaving, Personal Survival and Resuscitation.

Q:How many weeks in a term?
A:There are 10 weeks in a term and 4 terms a year.

Q:How is payment made for swimming lessons?
A:Payments are sent by cheque payable to Wendy Gardner. This is sent before the start of each course.

Q:My child has grommets. Can they go swimming?
A:Some doctors may advise against swimming if your child has had an operation to insert grommets, but using an appropriate earplug can reduce the chance of water getting into the ears and causing an infection. It is advisable to talk to your family doctor, child's audiologist or specialist Ear Nose & Throat doctor first.

Q:Cancellations?
A:No refunds are given should any lessons have to be cancelled for any reason outside the control of Wendy Gardner School of Swimming or if lessons are missed due to holidays, sickness or other absences.

Q:How are lessons constructed?
A:We work to the ASA Plan for teaching Swimming but we fully appreciate every pupil will have a different rate of progression.

Q:Are teachers CRB checked?
A:Yes, all our teachers are CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checked.

Q:Are teachers fully qualified and insured?
A:Yes, all classes are taught by a fully qualified ASA Teacher to the ASA National Plan. They are members of the IOS (Institute of Swimming) and are fully insured.

Q:Do teachers have Life Saving Qualifications?
A:Yes, all our teachers have Life Saving Qualifications which are updated every two years.
